Building a unique sound as a DJ or producer is no easy feat in a competitive music industry so densely populated with upcoming artists. Such a journey of creative self-expression can seem a simple task to the uninitiated; something innate, something organic, a by-product of genuine talent and passion. Honing this inherently influential element of an artist’s individuality and creative output is often described as being “a natural process”, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. A journey that takes many potential artists years to refine, it is more often than not, something that comes with deep experimentation, consistent effort, and time spent with skin in the game.
One such artist on this journey is 23-year-old Moose, a fresh-faced, aspiring DJ & Producer currently based in the Midlands. Unearthing a passion and love for the dance music scene whilst at university, he has spent the last few years discovering his sound and soaking in the experiences he found within Hull’s vibrant electronic music landscape. Hungry to participate, he joined Crystal Clear the local electronic music and events society, and soon after began djing at local events, house parties and via popular brands such as Takeover. After embedding himself in the local music scene, a move from the city back to the suburbs found Moose living in a place without one. Keen to continue his passion for mixing and producing electronic music, he is one of many younger artists that took advantage of the industries shift into the online space in recent years, finding his own outlet and creative sanctuary via the burgeoning online radio scene, a result of the post-covid evolution taking place in the industry today.
Landing not one, but two radio shows on London based Mode FM and Voices Radio, he is now a monthly resident for both, hosting a varied roster of talented artists and delivering a refreshing perspective on all things breakbeat, whilst simultaneously avoiding the pitfalls of any classic trend curve. Moving effortlessly between electro, rave, hardcore and jungle, his sound is characterised by energetic and dynamic blends influenced by the formative period he experienced living in Hull. An artist that displays a well-rounded knowledge and love for all things up tempo and high energy, Moose has spent the summer playing between events in his spiritual home of Hull, as well as in his local area of the Midlands. Alongside this, his efforts within producing are also beginning to bear fruit, seeing his debut release - a spritely UKG edit - represented by Birmingham label Killa Sounds. Not one to take his proverbial foot off the pedal though, the closing months of the year see Moose release two original productions via Duckland and Belters, two online labels with a healthy following on Soundcloud. With a commitment to quality over quantity, a regular check back on this dedicated up and comer would not go a miss for any fan of fresh talent with a little bit of, shall we say, je ne sais quoi present in their work.
